21/Dec/18 welcome to the longest night of the year

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So today is the first day of Winter.  I guess it's Summer if you live below the equator.  Funny how that happens.  Two different parts of the planet, yet two completely different seasons.

But for those that live near the equator, it has little meaning for them.  It's hot there all the time.  I'm pretty sure that with all my fur, I wouldn't enjoy living near the equator too much.

The Big Guy has been to CFS Alert, way back in 1994.  It would have been this day, that he would have started his long plane ride, back to Southern Canada and eventually back to Shearwater.  It took him two days, flying by plane to get home again.  He was quite happy to be home just before Christmas that year.

You would think that they got a lot of snow when he was so close to the North Pole.  But actually it was the opposite.  They didn't get a lot of snow.  But what snow that fell, didn't melt.  Of course it would melt come the Summer time.

But while it is the longest night of the year, while in CFS Alert, the sun had set in the middle of October.  So it didn't make any difference that it was the longest night of the year.  It was night ALL the time for them.

So to all my friends that are reading this in other countries and other places, what are you doing to cope with this long night?

I bet if your into creepy stuff, your thinking about some sort of horror movie about it being the long night.  Or something like that.
