31/Mar/23 out like a lion

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

As I'm looking outside, I have to wonder, will they be cancelling the garbage pick up for another week?

It is snowing rather hard.

It would be 2 weeks in a row if it does get cancelled.

But the Big Guy does have a huge black garbage bag that he could put all the garbage into so that they only have the one bag to pick up.

Last week, the Big Guy got a notification on his phone at 7:00 in the morning to say that the garbage pick up was cancelled.

it's not 7:00 just yet.

I got to meet a new guy yesterday.

He is called a plumber.

He installed a new toilet yesterday.

That one went upstairs.

The old one, well, it was leaking.

Now, thankfully, it was just dirty water and not sewage.

Still, it smelled in the kitchen.

The Big Guy went to Superstore and he got this stuff to absorb smells.

They have an old box of baking soda in the kitchen, but he thinks it's several years old.

It's absorbing smell days are probably in the past.

Sigh...  with the snow, it means my walks are postponed again.

Shit

30/Mar/23 more snow

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Big Guy was kinda upset this morning.

He got up and noticed there was a warning on his phone.

He checked it.

Snowfall warning.

He checked the weather for North Sydney.

10 to 20 mm of rain.

WTF?

He checked the snowfall warning again.

It says, some "parts" of Cape Breton county will get upwards of 20 cm of snow.

Since North Sydney is part of Cape Breton county, that would be why he got the snowfall warning.

Phew...

Thought I wasn't going to be able to go for walks for the next few days.

The Big Guy weighed himself yesterday.

He has lost 48.6 pounds.

So close to losing his first 50 pounds.

Now, he has to go for blood work this morning.

He can't have breakfast before he goes.

Will he be below his 50 pounds lost?

Only time will tell.

29/Mar/23 power went out yesterday

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

It would have been nice if the folks at Nova Scotia power would have put something in the mail box saying that they were planning to cut the power for about an hour yesterday.

Then again, they can do as they please.

When the Big Guy was looking at the NS Power outage maps, they put on there than it was just planned maintenance.

Not sure what maintenance they did.

Besides cutting the power for about an hour.

The Big Guy got a new clock for the bedroom.

It's an Echo DOT.

It woke him to a nice gentle chime this morning.

He used to rely on his watch vibrating.

But it's not an expensive watch, so it didn't always wake him.

He likes getting up really early so that he can take his medication before going to work.

Otherwise, it would be interrupting his work having to go to the bathroom.

Tonya ordered up some self rising flour.

She has plans for recipes she would like to make.

The Big Guy had made his own self raising flour.

But so far, the stuff he has made, has been less than stellar.

He has decided, he will just make regular dough from now on.

Perhaps Tonya will have better luck.

28/Mar/23 temperature slowly creeping upwards

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yesterday, we got more snow.

But, we also got some rain later in the day.

So the snow that fell, melted.

Having said that, there is a lot more snow that still needs to melt.

Of course once the snow melts, then the front hedge will need to be trimmed.

Same with the trees between our house and Jim's house.

If it isn't one chore, it's another.

But the Big Guy also finds that it's a lot easier to do that summer work than the shoveling of the snow.

The property always looks so much nicer when it's all groomed.

You could say the same with myself.

I always look nicer after I get home from the groomer.

Pretty soon, I will have to go to the Vet for my own annual check up and shots.

The Vet is going to be telling Tonya that I'm over weight.

This is par for the course.

Tonya asked the Big Guy to make some chili for supper today.

I bet he will put onions and garlic in it.

But that's OK, Tonya will still give me some even though onions and garlic are like poison to me.

27/Mar/23 when are we walking again

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yesterday, Tonya and the Big Guy went out.

I could smell Terry, Craig and Haas off them.

I guess there is a lot of the sidewalks that are still plugged up with snow.

So, while it isn't safe to go for walks, I don't go.

I guess they aren't walking either.

The Big Guy went outside yesterday morning and shoveled off the walk to the road.

But it snowed again yesterday.

He is hoping that it didn't snow that much.

He will have a look when he goes downstairs for his breakfast.

The Big Guy was wearing a T-Shirt that is filled with holes.

It reminded Tonya a lot of the T-Shirt that he had.

It also had a lot of holes in it.

Elaine went for a visit and put the T-Shirt in the garbage.

Mr. Clarke went into the garbage and took it out.

The Big Guy is going to put the shirt in the garbage and will not be taking it out.

The weather isn't looking so good for the snow.

Of course there is another snow event coming in for this Saturday.

They are forecasting another 10 cm of snow.

The Big Guy isn't happy about that.

He would much rather have rain and a lot of it.

Me too.

Snow, means the sidewalks aren't good to walk on and that means no walks.

Shit.

26/Mar/23 I got big paws and I can not lie

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

These paws helps me when we are out walking and I want to climb the snow banks.

We haven't been out walking in a few days.

But that was due to the snow that plugged up the roads and sidewalks.

I wonder if yesterday's sun melted a lot of the snow that would have been on the sidewalks.

Did you see that path that goes from the front deck to the sidewalk?

After the Big Guy was out, the snow was still falling.

It all got filled back in.

He is not happy.

He has to go shovel that all out.

Otherwise, the mail will not be delivered to the door.

It isn't too cold out right now.

So, when the coffee is on, he could be outside shoveling that snow.

One less item he has to do later.

The Big Guy was talking with my Memere.

I guess they are expecting a lot of snow today.

He just checked the weather maps.

Certainly not as much as we got on Friday.

34.5 cm of snow.

They are forecasting for 10+ cm of snow in Moncton.

25/Mar/23 allergies and paw licks

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yesterday, the Big Guy made goulash after he came in from snow blowing.

Now, it also has 2 onions in the goulash.

I'm not supposed to have onions.

Of course, Tonya had some goulash.

Anything that Tonya has, I want.

She gave me some.

This is from the internet.

All parts of the onion plant are toxic to dogs, including the flesh, leaves, juice, and processed powders. Whether raw or cooked, fried or powdered, onions and the rest of the allium family (garlic, shallots, leeks, and chives) are harmful to dogs.

She is going to kill me with love.

After I had some of her goulash, not a lot.

I started coughing and hacking.

Not just a little bit.

I was in distress.

The Big Guy tells her when he cooks with onions and garlic, which is just about every meal.

Yes, human food is very tasty.

I so love human food.

But it is also very deadly for me.

24/Mar/23 all the better to eat you

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Yesterday we went for a walk.

But we did two blocks vice only the one that we normally walk.

The Big Guy didn't mind too much that I would stop and sniff stuff.

It allowed him to catch his breath.

He is still a very big guy and isn't winning any foot races when we are out walking.

But, he is walking and that's a big deal for him.

Yesterday, he was rather proud that he was able to put the garbage to the curb and then come inside the house and go upstairs.

About three months ago, he would not have walked right up to the curb.  He would of got close and tossed the bags to the curb.

He would of come inside and would needed to have sat for a bit before moving.

So, he is getting in a lot better shape than he was.

Same with myself.

When I used to get home, I would plop myself down and just lay there trying to catch my breath.

I still lay down to catch my breath, but not as long as I used to.

I wonder what the Big Guy is going to make today?

He made scallops and fried veggies yesterday.

Tonya told the Big Guy, no more stir fry.

From now on, please oven bake the veggies.

They are much better that way.

He agreed.

23/Mar/23 Happy 80th Birthday Memere

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

My Memere is 80 years old today.

She is so nice to me when she comes for a visit.

She pats me a few times and tells me I'm a good boy.

But she does get nervous when I bark.

She doesn't like it when dogs lick her hand.

The previous dog that used to live here, she trained him to put his tongue back in his mouth.

She would tell him, no licks.

Put your tongue back in your mouth.

Now, any dog that is curious, they naturally close their mouth.

They may also tilt their head too.

But it would look like Sebastian was listening to his Memere and would put his tongue back in his mouth.

He definitely didn't lick her.

I don't lick much to start with.

Unless you are holding food.

Occasionally I snap at Tonya when she is feeding me by hand.

I don't mean to nip her fingers.

But sometimes, my teeth does brush her fingers.

The other day, when Aurora was feeding me apples, I tried to be gentle, but then Aurora would just drop the apple on the floor.

22/Mar/23 what is gout

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Big Guy woke up early today.

His feet were sore.

He knows what the pain is.

It's gout.

But this time, he isn't sure why he is having a gout attack.

Normally it's green stuff.  Either that, or sea food.

But he hasn't had any of that stuff in a while now.

There was one visit, his father had a gout attack.

They had to cut their visit short.

Now, the Big Guy has what he calls his Gout 2.0 pills.

They take the pain away, but it also makes him sleepy.

But he would much rather be sleepy for a day while he is taking these pills, than put up with the pain.

When he gets like that, it also means no walks for me.

Shit.

But, Tonya has been taking me.

So, not all is lost.

The Big Guy was rather proud of himself yesterday.

He was able to fix the kitchen taps from leaking.

He was also able to fix his snow blower.

There was a part that broke and the snow blower wasn't lifting properly.

But he was able to effect repairs.

He is so pleased.
