31/Dec/18 this is it, the last day of 2018

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Since I'm not human, I don't get the subtleties of this thing they call a calendar.

The year 2018 is coming to an end.  The year 2019 begins tonight at midnight.  This is when they will throw out their old calendars and put up new calendars.

The Big Guy said that if the new calendar is put up early, it's bad luck.  Really?  Hanging a piece of paper with information on it is considered bad luck?  Humans are weird.

I don't believe in luck.  It either is, or is not.  There is no luck involved.  I may be lucky to get something.  Like a steak cooked for ME!  Now that is lucky.

The Big Guy was telling me that he went to get a coffee at work, the other day.  There was a guy sitting in the lunch room, having his own lunch.  The guy looked at him and asked him if he dyed his hair.  The Big Guy sorta chuckled and told him, no.  The guy looked at the Big Guy once again and said, he believes that it's because the Big Guy has let his hair grow out for the last month and that's why it looks like it has been dyed.  The Big Guy agreed.  He said that normally he keeps it "high and tight".  No one is going to be pulling his hair any day soon.

The Big Guy can hear the notifications going off on Tonya's phone.  It must be from the two outdoor cameras.  There must be some sort of animal that is going around the yard.  Since the cameras have motion detection software in them, they are constantly taking videos and pictures of the movement that they can "see".

I wonder if I don't say anything about the snow in the forecast, will it go away?  Then again, 20 cm of snow isn't just something that you can ignore.

30/Dec/18 put your left paw in, put your left paw out

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Yesterday the Big Guy was quite happy about the snow.  The fact that it was still light and fluffy that is.  Then, later in the day, the temperature went up quite a bit.  Of course then, all the snow was melting off the roof and falling to the ground, with great big THUMP THUMP THUMP!

Each time it would release some snow, it would get my attention.

The Big Guy is cooking up some sausages for breakfast.  He really likes them.  But he wouldn't give me any.  He can be selfish like that.  He keeps saying that there is stuff in them that is bad for me.

Really?  If there is so much bad stuff in them, then why does Tonya give them to me?

Then again, I really shouldn't blame Tonya.  I just beg and beg and beg until she finally gives in.  I've been known to leave quite the wet spot on her clothes from begging so much.  I just turn on the drool factory and then she gives me what she is eating.

The Big Guy has finally thrown out the Christmas Potpourri.  So now the green bin smells really nice.  He could have thrown that out in the back yard so that the birds would have been able to get to the berries.  Oh well, it's a bit late to do that now.

Tonya was talking about taking some of the Christmas decorations down today.  They are nice and all of that, but there does come a point, where it's time to un-decorate for another season.

Oh, I wonder if they would need a break from un-decorating and then they could take me to the dog park.  I really like going there.

29/Dec/18 don't look at me, I'm hideous

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So it snowed last night.  See, if you remember, I had forecasted that earlier in the week.  Geesh, I could be a person to do the weather on TV.

Or at the very least, try to emulate Frankie MacDonald and have a HUGE following on YouTube.  I could tell people to get their water and their kibble for their dogs.  Not so much cats as I am not a cat person.  To get their canned dog food.  Make sure to get their dog treats.  Get out the doggie booties.

Yup, I could make a whole series about that and then do warnings for different cities.

The Big Guy thought there was going to be a lot more rain that was in the forecast.  But the rain has been rolled back.  Only 1 mm of rain.  But it is going to go up to +6 today.  So it will be nice out while he is outside snow blowing.

Tonya wants the Big Guy to make a turkey pie.  He said that he can do that.  He is also going to be making something that he calls Chinese Noodles.  This was something that his father and he both created many years ago.  It's more of a pork casserole dish.  But giving it a fancy name probably makes it taste better.  Who knows.

But he's got all day to attend to this snow blowing and cooking stuff.

Not sure what Tonya will be getting him to do.  But he will probably not like it.  He says that she has a "honey do list" for him.  He often wonders what would happen if he were to create a "wifey do list".  Do you think that would go over very well?

28/Dec/18 I can do downward dog very well

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So the Big Guy has mounted his other camera outside.  Tonya says that it looks like it was professionally done.  That made the Big Guy especially proud.  They got two cameras from work as their Christmas bonus.  I'm not sure what they will get next year if they are still with the company.  I know that the Big Guy also received a Christmas Turkey as well for being there so long.

Here is a picture of the Big Guy dumping the garbage.  Pretty cool eh?

Then one of him walking back up the stairs into the house.

When he was looking at the video capture, you could tell it was him.  He is sort of excited to see what it looks like when he is out on his snow blower.

There is the ability to move the camera too.  So if he wanted to remotely view another angle, he can do that.  He can do that from Tonya's cell phone or even from his computer.

Last Summer, there was at least one person that damaged a bunch of stuff that was out on their front yard.  Now with this camera, they will not be able to do that without being "seen".

Were supposed to get some snow, followed by some rain, then the temp is supposed to dip once again, so that all the snow will freeze.  Not good at all.  The Big Guy will have to get up early tomorrow and get the snow blower out before it freezes.

That's the type of snow that annoys the Big Guy.  Wet heavy snow.  Yuck.  I'm not too impressed with it either.

27/Dec/18 I've got laser pointers for eyes

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So this is that "in between" time, it isn't Christmas any longer, but it isn't New Years yet either.  It's just the "in between" time.

The Christmas decorations are still up, but will soon be coming down.  Some people likely have already started taking their stuff down.  Others, well, they will leave it up till after the New Year.

I wonder what 2019 will bring?

I'm predicting snow.  Very likely tomorrow too.  Only 5 cm though.  Not too much.  Wouldn't want the Big Guy to get out the snow blower.

Last night, the Big Guy wasn't feeling all that well.  He went to bed as soon as Tonya got home.  Which is unusual for him.  But he got up his regular time.  He seems no worst for wear today.  Must have been some 24 hour bug that he caught.

The Big Guy couldn't figure out why his new camera wasn't broadcasting for day light conditions.  Well he was playing around with it and he figured it out.  He had it in "night vision" during the day.  He fixed that.  But right now, due it is snowing a wee bit, the motion detector is going off quite a bit.  Which is fine by him.  He would rather have a few false positives than not have any notifications at all.  He still has to mount the second camera.  Which he thinks he will be doing later on this morning.

Tonya is going to be home early tonight.  She doesn't have a long shift at work today.  So perhaps the Big Guy may be able to make some BBQ'ed Steaks for supper.  She tends to like them a lot.

For that matter, so does he.

26/Dec/18 my present is keeping chairs warm

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

The Big Guy was messing around with Tonya's camera on her new cell phone and the pictures are much wider than the "regular" format.

Yesterday Tonya asked the Big Guy if he could make his Christmas potpourri.  So of course he did.  It smells so nice.  It's cranberries, cinnamon sticks, cloves and all spice.  Then you boil it and it smells wonderful.

Elaine, Tonya's sister wanted to have some cranberries with her turkey yesterday.  Without asking where the cranberries were, she helped herself to the potpourri.  It was a good thing that her son stopped her from having it with her supper.  Although it may have tasted OK.

Normally when the Big Guy is done with it, he just throws it into the green bin.  So the green bin smells like Christmas for a bit.

Talking of green bin, you should have seen the things he was putting into it.  He cooked a ham and he was taking the meat off the bone.  Well, instead of giving me the bone, he THREW it into the green bin.

Oh, and the extra fat and skin from the ham.  Guess where that went...  Right off the back door deck onto the grass.  Now, the next morning, it was gone.  Not even a scrap for me to sniff.

Then, to make matters worst, he cooked a turkey.  When he was done deboning the turkey, and boiling the bones for gravy, guess where the bones went...  right into the green bin...  I couldn't believe it.

But during supper, everyone was eating and eating, but some people had left some stuff on their plates.  Tonya gathered up all the scraps and guess who turned into a garbage disposal.  That's right.  It was me.  I was so full.  After everyone left, I went into a turkey comatose.  Boy did I sleep.

25/Dec/18 Merry Christmas to you and your family

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

OK, so it's Christmas Day.

There is a lot of children out there that have got up this morning and are opening presents.  As adults, we get a lot of joy from seeing our children so happy.

For myself, I have been taken to the Vet where I was tutored.

Old joke.  Still funny though.  If you click on the picture, you can see it in full screen and you will be able to read the writing at the bottom of the picture.

So I hear that were going to have a lot of people over for lunch today.  Tonya says about 16 people will be here.  That is a lot.

Most of them smoke too.  So they will be going outside on the deck.  Then they will be tossing their cigarette butts around the yard.

Those butts are not good for me.  I can't help myself.  I just love them.  nom nom nom

Well, I've got to go see if there are any presents under the tree for me.

24/Dec/18 it's Christmas eve 2018

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So what is next year going to bring?  More kibble and water I bet.

Yesterday Tonya spent the better part of the day, cooking and backing.  She got a bunch of stuff cooked off for her brothers.  Shhh... don't tell them that they are getting some cookies and stuff for Christmas.  It would ruin the surprise.

Yesterday the Big Guy spent a few hours upstairs in the spare room.  He was painted his crests.  He is hoping that his old Navy friends will be getting lots of money for Christmas and that they are looking to spend it on his stuff.

So the weather has turned cold again.  But that was to be expected.  After all, we do live in Canada.

I'm hoping that this Santa guy brings me a new bone.  I've pretty much chewed up the other ones that I own.

Tonya was asking the Big Guy to dye her hair.  I'm not sure why she does that.  I think she is beautiful without the added color to her hair.  I guess it's a vanity thing.  She says that she is too young to have all grey hair.

I got a meet a couple of guys yesterday that came by to get this chest.  It was filled with old stuff.  The insides smelled sorta funny as well.  I guess that was just old wood.  The Big Guy's father had told him that it belonged to his brother-in-law.  So the Big Guy made sure it got back into the hands of his cousins.  I'm sure they will be very happy to have it back in their hands.

23/Dec/18 it's almost Christmas

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So I've only seem to got pictures of this smaller tree that's in the living room.  We have a much larger tree, but it's in the other room.  When I try to look outside, my tail bangs against the tree and the ornaments that's on it.  But that's OK, they only put plastic ornaments so that if they fall off, they will not get broken.

We got quite a bit of rain yesterday.  So much so, that even the snow banks are GONE!

We are going to have a green Christmas this year.

Yesterday the Big Guy made this beef pie.  Tonya thought it was weird that he was making it out of hamburger.  But hamburger is beef.  Only chopped up really fine.  Well it you could have smelled it.  Oh, I got to taste some of the gravy.  Tonya said that she made sure there was no onions on what was left.

I don't think she knows how allergies work.

If it was cooked WITH onions, there is onions in it, even if you make sure to take them out.

So far, no itchy paws.

So it's all good so far.

I'm hoping that Santa brings me another stuffed toy to play with.  I've been having a lot of fun with the toy that Tonya bought me last week.  So far, I haven't managed to destroy it any more than the ears being ripped off.

22/Dec/18 So there is this new decoration

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

If you look at this picture, there is a new decoration just over my left paw.  Which would be just to the right of the picture.  Can you see the new Santa Clause that is standing there?

So far, I've tried to sniff him a few times, but every time I get close, I'm told "NO".

So I guess my job is not to go near him.

I've got to wonder.

Do they like that guy in the red suit more than me?

Naw...  that can't be.

They love me a lot!

It's raining out side.  We're supposed to get more and more rain as the day goes on.  Plus, were forecasted to go up to +10 C today.  That should melt all the snow that has fallen.

This morning, the Big Guy is going to be making hash browns.  Now, I know there is onions in them, but I'm willing to have itchy paws so that I could have some.

Just a little bit.

PLEASE!!

21/Dec/18 welcome to the longest night of the year

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So today is the first day of Winter.  I guess it's Summer if you live below the equator.  Funny how that happens.  Two different parts of the planet, yet two completely different seasons.

But for those that live near the equator, it has little meaning for them.  It's hot there all the time.  I'm pretty sure that with all my fur, I wouldn't enjoy living near the equator too much.

The Big Guy has been to CFS Alert, way back in 1994.  It would have been this day, that he would have started his long plane ride, back to Southern Canada and eventually back to Shearwater.  It took him two days, flying by plane to get home again.  He was quite happy to be home just before Christmas that year.

You would think that they got a lot of snow when he was so close to the North Pole.  But actually it was the opposite.  They didn't get a lot of snow.  But what snow that fell, didn't melt.  Of course it would melt come the Summer time.

But while it is the longest night of the year, while in CFS Alert, the sun had set in the middle of October.  So it didn't make any difference that it was the longest night of the year.  It was night ALL the time for them.

So to all my friends that are reading this in other countries and other places, what are you doing to cope with this long night?

I bet if your into creepy stuff, your thinking about some sort of horror movie about it being the long night.  Or something like that.

20/Dec/18 just catching up on my sleep

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

So the Big Guy is not feeling very generous.  There are people that park in, or across, his driveway from time to time.  Oh and doesn't that annoy him!  They don't just do it to his driveway.  Oh to be sure, these people do it to all the people that live in the area.

Yesterday, the Big Guy had me out for my walk and he was muttering under his breath the entire walk.

The Big Guy was talking with the Crossing Guard and also his neighbor that lives at the corner of Stanley and Archibauld.  He was also complaining about someone parking across his driveway as well.  But apparently, if he catches the person, he doesn't just get upset, he goes out and talks with the "offender".

One guy that used to work with the Big Guy said that the drop off street is supposed to be Archibaud street, not Stanley.  But everyone ignores that.

That school was designed for when kids used to walk to school.  Now kids are soft.  They have to be driven to school.  Out of the several hundred kids that go to that school, there are only a handful that actually walk to school.

Don't get the Big Guy started on when they close the school for inclement weather.  Which in his mind, happens way too often.  Then again, there are also those children that have to be bused to school.

The Big Guy as a solution to that.  Since most of the kids are "online", have the teacher hold class by remote.  Like "live" YouTube or something like that.  Oh, then the parents would cry foul on that too.
