11/Nov/16 Remembrance Day

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Did you know that the Big Guy is a veteran?  He has the Special Service Medal with the NATO and ALERT clasps.  Then there is the Peacekeeping Medal with the UNDOF medal.  Then the Canadian Decoration with 1st clasp.

He has done 1 tour of CFS Alert.  He said that it was super cold there.  One day, with the wind chill, he figured it was -76 F.

He has also done NATO '91, '93, and '05.  This is where our Canadian Ships will deploy for 6 months with the Standing Naval Force Atlantic and play war games.

The Peacekeeping medal, in 1988 the Canadian Peacekeepers were awarded the NOBEL Peace Prize.

UNDOF, in the spring, summer and fall of 1988, the Big Guy took part in the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force.

Then there is the Canadian Decoration.  After 12 years of good service, you are awarded your CD.  After 21 years of service, you are given your first clasp.  So with that in mind, the Big Guy can actually sign his name with CD1 at the end.

There is some people that feel that Veterans should be given special privileges on today.  He had one lady that felt he should be given the day off, with pay, so that he can attend the Remembrance Day Ceremonies.  But he knows that he will get paid more if he goes to work.

The Big Guy has been in Sea Cadets, the Naval Reserves and the Canadian Forces for the most part of his life.  He wrote a blank check and handed it over to the Government of Canada.  They could have cashed this check with him giving up his life.  Sure glad they gave him back that check in February of 2006.

Bye bye for now
