Good morning Cape Breton.
Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.
Have you ever been walking around at night and suddenly seen a flash? Yet there was no clouds outside when this happened?
If you have, it's very likely that it's the Big Guy wandering around in the house, trying to find me to take that picture of me for my blog.
The Big Guy remember this happening to him. He was about 17 at the time. It would have been New Years and he was walking to his Girlfriend's house. When all of a sudden... FLASH. Someone had taken a photo, but at the time, he didn't realize what it was.
Just like his friend, he used to deliver the paper in the morning. This is back when the Concord airplane used to cross the Atlantic in about 3 hours. He used to hear the sonic boom. Not that it was loud, but for the longest time, he couldn't figure out what the boom was that he was hearing, about the same time, every day. It was always in the same direction. It didn't matter if it was clear skies, or raining, or snowing. Each day, about the same time, a quite boom in the same direction and always towards the open Atlantic ocean. Eventually he figured it out, that it was the Concord.
The Big Guy had never seen an actual tornado. He thinks they are very scary. He prefers hurricanes. They are a lot more predictable. You know it's coming. He has seen a few dust devils. He even got "hit" by one changing a car tire in Saskatchewan. Not very pleasant. But he was only pelted with small rocks and sand. Honestly, he should have just got back in the mini van and waited for it to pass. He was watching it come up the highway as he was changing the tire on the trailer. He held up his arms to protect his face. It was over just about as quick as it started, and the dust devil continued up the highway.
Then there are the fire tornadoes. I just can't imagine that at all. No thanks.
