8/Feb/20 I looked outside and I don't see the fox

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

So now that Tonya and the Big Guy know that Fox will go after rats and mice, they are more determined to keep the Fox in this area.

Now, the Big Guy only wants to put any stuff that they feed to the Sea Gulls, well, he only wants to throw it outside when he knows that it's dark out.  That way, the Fox will get it and not the birds.  What ever the Fox doesn't get, the Sea Gulls will get the next morning.

I can see him looking outside, every so often, to see if he can see the Fox.

Last night, when the Big Guy went to bed, he was sure that there was freezing rain that had covered the trees, the power lines and his car.

He was also concerned about his back and front steps.  He thought, with the temp going down to -6 today, there was no way the ice was going to be gone.

But, when he got up this morning and was looking at his car...  he couldn't see any ice on his car.  Or on the power lines, or the trees.  The wind is blustering...  but no ice.

That's when he noticed the temperature.  It's +3.  So all the freezing rain... that was covering everything before they went to bed.  It melted.

Now, the snow that's on the ground.  Well, this is the stuff that creates avalanches in other parts of the country.  If you were to look outside right now, the top layer of snow, it is quite saturated with water.  Once the temperature dips below freezing, that top layer of snow, well, it's going to be ice.  Then, it's supposed to snow in the next few days.  Not a lot.  Only 5 cm one day and 5 cm the next.

But this snow is going to be sitting on top of this layer of ice.

If we lived in a mountainous part of the country, we would be ready for an avalanche.  That layer of snow would slip off the ice and slide down the mountain.  That is a lot of weight.  It feeds off itself, until it finally comes to a rest at the bottom of the mountain.

The only avalanche the Big Guy has ever seen, is what you see on TV.

Yup, Mother Nature can be very unforgiving if your in the way of an avalanche.
