31/Dec/21 it's the last day of the year

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I am late posting today's blog.

We had a power outage.

Not just one, but 3 power outages.

2 last night and 1 this morning.

That woke the Big Guy up as he does rely on the CPAP machine.

So he got up and puttered around.

Right now, there is a Beef Brisket in the oven.  That is going to take about 6 hours to cook.  But he has it on low heat and it's covered.

Tonya told the Big Guy to make sure that the pies got cooked.  So he did that first thing, when he got up.  He put the coffee on and fixed the clocks on the stove and the microwave.

Later today, he will have to fix the timer on the lasers that are outside.

That meant that I was able to go outside, without having to get Tonya up first.

I've been told that Elaine, Clarke, Terry, Haas and Craig will be coming by later on.

So the Big Guy has more stuff to make and prepare before the day is out.

I wonder, how much of this meal, will I get to have?  I didn't see any onions.  So it's looking promissing.

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I wasn't barking when this picture was taken.

I was yawning.

But it does look like I was barking.

I make sure to get up, every day, around 7 in the morning.  

I want outside.

In the past, the Big Guy used to be up with me.

Now, cause he is sleeping, Tonya gets up with me.

Yesterday, she didn't make sure that the coffee maker lid was "snapped" down.

The coffee spilled all over the counter.

She had it all cleaned up before the Big Guy came downstairs.

But what a mess.

I stayed in the living room while she cleaned it.

I don't like coffee.

Also, they both drink it black, no sugar.

How can they do that?

29/Dec/21 waiting for 2021 to end

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

It's snowing outside.

The forecast doesn't show much accumulation.

The Big Guy was also looking at the longer range forecast.

He is smiling as it isn't snow in the forecast, but rain.

He just LOVES the rain.

The Big Guy and Tonya have been eating on Turkey Pie for 4 days now.

The Big Guy doesn't mind so much.

Tonya is about had enough of turkey.

The Big Guy should really have a look to see what is in the freezer so that Tonya doesn't have to have more turkey.

He is wondering if they got fish left.

He could make fish cakes for her.

But then, they need beans.

The Big Guy finds that it's like a Cape Breton/Newfoundland thing.  Fish Cakes and Beans.

The Big Guy has been to every province in Canada.  He has never seen where Fish Cakes goes with Beans.

Soon enough...  Beef Brisket.

The Big Guy is home again.

I wasn't invited.

The Big Guy drove his grand babies to the hospital last night.

A 3:50 in the morning, he got a phone call, that they were ready to be picked up.

Off he went to the hospital to pick them up.

He is home again.

I am glad he is home.

He said, now that he is home, he is just going to nap on the couch.

Shhhh...

Tonya is still sleeping.

27/Dec/21 inspector dog is making sure you are working at work

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Not very often that I will go upstairs when the Big Guy is at work.

But when I do.

I expect him to be working and not screwing around.

Some days, he has the radio turned on.

Other days, he is listening to other music, but not the radio.

There is some days, he has the music turned up pretty loud.

He has these Altec Lansing speakers hooked up to his computer.

The music is pretty loud for the little room that he is in.

I get bored and they go back downstairs.

When he comes downstairs on his break, he will put me outside.

A lot of times, he is calling me back inside before I am done being outside.  But his breaks are only so long.

There is this bottle of VERY old Christmas Nuts that they have in the living room.

The Big Guy has been wondering if he could feed them to the birds.

He just looked it up and I guess it's OK.

But they do recommend that you break them up first.

That does seem like a lot of work.  Just to throw them out to the birds.  Don't the birds have to crack open the nuts that are in the wild?

Birds are getting pretty lazy.

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

This is called "Boxing Day".

I'm pretty sure, this would be the day that you gather up all the boxes that you would have got your Christmas Presents in, and put them in the trash.

At least that is my theory.

I'm going to check with Google.

Turns out, I wasn't even close.

Why is today called Boxing Day?

The name comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants - a day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters. The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

Both Tonya and the Big Guy have to work today.

They both suspect that a lot of people are going to be looking to return their Christmas presents.

This is also when people will go to the stores and try to do returns, without gift receipts.

This is also when the retailers will have "boxing day sales". 

The Big Guy got some money for Christmas.

He was trying to see what he could purchase.

He rather hordes his money till he can get something on sale.

I wonder what he is going to get with his money?

25/Dec/21 the tree lights are pretty

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Tonya and the Big Guy opened their Christmas presents to each other, last night.

Today, the Big Guy is getting up, extra early.

He will be cooking a turkey.

I hope when he is taking the meat off the cooked turkey, that he "accidently" drops some on the floor.

I've seen him do that in the past.

It doesn't always work though.

He can be pretty fussy when he comes to that.

Last night, he found the nut cracker and was having some Christmas nuts.

Lots of effort, small reward.

He also gave me some walnuts.

Turns out, I'm not supposed to have walnuts.

Not that he gave me a lot.

He is pretty mean when he comes to sharing.

I could see why.

It takes a lot of effort to break open those nuts.

24/Dec/21 Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

It snowed last night.

There was snow squalls that came through the area.

When the squall would "hit".  You could hardly see anything.  It was hard to see the street lights.

But when you looked outside after the snow quall passed, there was hardly any snow on the ground.

This morning, the Big Guy heard the snow plow go by.

As he laid in bed, he was wondering, just how much snow fell.

He got up and looked.

Not much.

But enough to get the plow and salt trucks on the road.

All the stores are going to be closing early today.

Which is fine.

Tonya went out yesterday and got everything they needed.

Both Tonya and the Big Guy are off today.

I am so happy that I get them all to myself today.

I'm so happy, I could just shit.

23/Dec/21 you could be working from home too

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

There are several computers that are in the room upstairs.

Tonya could work from home too.

Like the Big Guy does.

She feels that it's important to socalize.

The Big Guy doesn't have that feeling.

He is used to working alone.

I think he will do very well in retirement some day.

He will sit on the front deck and wave to people.  Doesn't mean to come sit with him.  He would be pleasant if you did.

I know there is this one lady, when she is spotted, they will hustle me inside and then go sit outside again, but on the back deck.  That lady wants to be friendly.  But they also heard, she doesn't have any boundaries.  Meaning, she would visit all the time and over stay her welcome.

I heard that my friend Bonnie, she was at the hospital yesterday.

She was there a long time too.

But she is finally back home again.

I hope she is OK.

Sending good vibes to my friend Bonnie to get well soon.

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I am sure the Big Guy rather loves getting pictures of me in compromising positions.

I had been on my back with my paws in the air.

Then I had rolled over on my side.

My ear didn't flip back over.

Before you ask, my other ear wasn't stuck to the floor.

I just heard that my friend Bonnies in in the hospital with chest pains.

I hope that she will be OK.

That it was a false emergency.

The Big Guy has been waiting 6 months to take this picture.

He needs the sun to come above the horizon.

He took a picture of the sun above the horizon, 6 months ago.  That would have been during the Summer Solstice.  That would have been the longest day of the year.

Now, he wants to take a photo of the sun above the horizon during the Winter Solstice.  Yesterday, being the shortest day of the year.

NOW, think about it.

Both days have 24 hours in them.  How can one be longer and the other be shorter.

Humans are dumb.

21/Dec/21 looking to see if you got any treats at your work desk

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

I don't always go upstairs.

But sometimes, the Big Guy will bring a granola bar upstairs.

I can hear the wrapped from down stairs.

Sometimes, I will go upstairs to see what he is up to.

As you can see, my head is well above the level of the table where he has his computer set up.

He ate the granola bar before I could bug him for any.

Not very nice of him not to "share his Bar 6".

Only some of you will get that.

It was a candy bar from when the Big Guy used to be a little guy.

I guess the only thing that would be close to it, would be a Kit Kat bar.

I know, I know...

I'm not supposed to have any chocolate.

The Big Guy finds this easy to "enforce".

I will stare at Tonya when she is having a treat.

Me, staring at Tonya, bothers he so much, she will always give in.

I have the POWER!!  (He Man reference)

20/Dec/21 I am hiding

 

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The Big Guy is saying that he's going to be making soup today.  

It will likely be a stew.

Actually, he says that he is not sure just yet.

He gets like that.

He has plans to cook something.

Then he goes to the freezer to see that he is going to make something else.

He knows, if he make a soup with pasta, he will have to put canned tomatoes in it.

For some reason, that's the rule.

If he makes the soup with potatoes, then he will make a stew.

Growing up, his father used to make beef soup.

It didn't have a lot of ingredients in it.  Cut up beef, onion, potatoes, salt, pepper and water.  

Sometimes, they had dumplings in their soup.

The Big Guy, he makes his with a few more ingredients.

Well, time to get up and at them.  

Then, get ready for a nap.

Good morning world.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home, in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada.

The other day, Tonya made grilled cheese sandwiches and tomatoe soup.

Lets recap.

There was cheese.

I can have cheese.

There was toast.

I've had toast before.

Both of these were together.

So, you would think, I could have some.

That's where you would be wrong.

The Big Guy was STARING at me as he was eating his grilled cheese sandwich.

I tried to drool.

His knee was wet.

Didn't work.

I tried to get close to him so that he would notice me.

He could feel my breath as he was eating.

I tried to stare at him and watch every bite he took.

Nothing.

I didn't get any of his grilled cheese.

He isn't very nice.
