Good morning Cape Breton. Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home. My food bowls are nice and high. Those bad little mice can't jump high enough to get to my food. The Big Guy checked his mouse traps and there was nothing from last night. Tonya talked to a few people and they all got mice in their homes as well. So were supposed to get a snow storm, today and tomorrow. All in all, about 30 cm of snow. With some rain. That really makes the Big Guy upset. He really likes rain, but not with snow. That makes the snow wet and heavy. That snow doesn't go through the snow blower too good. So he is hoping that he will be able to snow blow the yard before it rains and makes the snow harder to move around. We went for a walk last night and I got to meet a new doggie friend. He is only little. He is about 6 months old. He has black and white fur. Not three colors like me. But we got to sniff each other. Then, further along, I got to meet the the Doctor's wife. She patted me and rubbed my fur and said how nice and fluffy I am. She was saying how much I remind her of another Bernese Mountain Dog that she was attached to. She goes for really long walks. About 8 or 10 kilometers a day. I would be some tired if she were to walk me each day. Tonya has to go to the hospital today to have a mole taken off her back. She is not looking forward to the procedure. But she is looking forward to having the mole removed. I don't think she understands. She has to have the procedure to have the mole removed. But once it's removed, she will be able to go home and rest. Well, on to the Word of the Day. Today's word is: Ultracrepidarian (noun) [uhl-truh-krep-i-dari-ee-uh n] My sentence: Cats can catch mice, as they sneak up on them. They use their ultracrepidarian moves to catch them. Good morning Cape Breton. Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home. So we are expecting a storm the next few days. But this is going to be one of those storms that is going to be nasty. As it is mixed precipitation. Which means wet and heavy snow. But the Big Guy got a can of gas in the garage for his snow blower. So he is sorta ready. Not that he wants to be, but he is ready. I wonder if this will be the last snow storm of this Winter? We have had snow storms and pretty nasty ones in early April. But the Big Guy is hoping this will be the last one for THIS year. Let next year take care of itself. So those new mouse traps didn't get any mice last night. They must be hiding. They couldn't have figured out the new traps just yet. These new ones have an elastic band that traps them around their little neck. The manufacturer says it's a quick kill. All's I know, I can't get my paw or my tongue to set off the trap. But I could chew on the trap to make it useless. Oh wouldn't that make the Big Guy pissed off. These traps cost $11.99 each at Home Hardware. If you are interested to see how this new mouse traps works, look at this video. WARNING: this video actually shows the mice being caught. So if your squeamish, give it a miss.
Pretty cool how it works, eh? Last night, during our walk, Tonya borrowed a pair of the Big Guy's work gloves. Well she didn't expect that they were for gardening work and not something that she would be able to wear out in the cold, wind. Her hands were FROZEN when they got home. The Big Guy wears these gloves when he is walking me in the Summer months. They have no real insulation value at all. They are just to protect his hands from the chain leash when he is walking me. Otherwise the chain kinda rips up his hands. I can pull really hard on my collar. So he wears gloves to protect his hands when he is walking me. OK, so now that were done talking about the mice. Lets talk about the Word of the Day: Struthious (adjective) [stroo-thee-uh s] My sentence: If your captor is trying to get you to tell the truth using apple strudels, he is employing the struthious torture method. Definition: Having to do with or resembling an ostrich. Sentence: He had a long, struthious neck. Today's Video of the Day is: 11 Week Old Luigi - Bernese Mountain Dog
No mice were harmed in this video. Bye bye fur now.
Good morning Cape Breton. Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home. Yesterday I got to go inside Home Hardware again. I was able to get 3 treats from the staff there. The Big Guy got a new type of mouse trap. It has a tube with an elastic band around it. When the mouse enters the tube, is releases the elastic band around their head. It is a VERY small elastic band.
Last night, after the Big Guy went upstairs, he though he heard the trap going off. When he come downstairs, not only did the elastic band trap work, when the mouse got "hit", it fell onto the snap trap and set that one off too. That mouse was doomed. The good thing about this new trap, it's safe for me. There is no way I could get my paw into the trap and get the elastic band around my paw or my tounge. Now it I were a much smaller dog, that might be different. But last night, when I was in Home Hardware, I was told, over and over, just how handsome I was. Those people that patted me were really impressed at how soft my fur is. One guy smelled his hand after he was done patting me and said that I don't smell doggie. It must be the food that Tonya and the Big Guy feed me. It's kinda on the expensive side. But they said that I am evidence that the good food is good for me. Well enough about food. It's time for the Word of the Day. Today's word is: Athleisure (noun) [ath-lee-zher, -lezh-er] My sentence: when an Olympian athlete is watching a movie, are they athleisure? Definition: A style of clothing worn as athletic apparel but also suitable casually. Sentence: She loved the pants because of their athleisure quality - good for the gum and quick coffee date afterwards. Today's Video of the Day is: My dog barry
Good morning Cape Breton. Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home. Yesterday we went to the Dog Park and I met some new friends. There was a Labra-Doodle and a German Shepard. I was the biggest dog there. But, it's Spring, sorta. I know it's still Winter by the calendar. But it was wet and muddy there. When I was running, there was mud flying in the air. I got in the Big Guy's car and put a lot of mud on the canvas cover and on the doors. We went to the Doggie Spa where I got to have a bath. Tonya tried to clean in the inside of the car, the best that she could with these wipes that they keep in the car. So the car isn't as dirty as what I made it. But it would still take a lot of patience to clean it up. The Big Guy put some conditioner on my fur. I am really soft now. I smell pretty good too. Tonya and the Big Guy went to visit their Uncle Rolly as he had some fish cakes for them. They fried them up using the cast iron skillet. Man oh man, did they ever smell good. But they didn't share ANY of it with me. I even did the putting my mussel on Tonya's lap as she was eating routing. It didn't work this time. She said that it tasted too good to share. I would have traded some kibble for the fish cakes. But she still didn't share. After the doggie spa, they took me to the place where I get my dog food. We also got a new ball for me. It kinda looks like a kettle weight. I've been playing with the new ball a lot. It's rather big so it doesn't roll under the couch. I tried to take it outside, but I've been told, this in an indoor toy. We will see how long that lasts. Tonya normally gives in. Today's Word of the Day is: Deipnosophist (noun) [dahyp-nos-uh-fist] My sentence: If you need to be un-hypnotized, you need to see a deipnosophist. Definition: A person skilled in the are of dining and dinner-table conversation. Sentence: The date was a success; she was indeed a deipnosophist. Video of the Day: How to clean a Bernese Mountain Dog
