22/Jun/18 there are no dog days of Summer here

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Today should be VERY exciting.  I am going to be going for a visit to the Doggie Day Care today.  So no walks today as I will be getting a lot of exercise.

Tonya and the Big Guy have got their own chores to attend to today, so they will not have me "under foot" today.

I should be leaving within the hour to go to the day care place.  I hope that I can meet a lot of new doggie friends and that they are all friendly.  Not every doggie is social.  They can be very aggressive and bittie.

The Big Guy had thought that he had purchased a Rat Trap on Amazon.  Well, he wasn't very careful and he purchased a mouse trap.  He isn't mad about it.  Tonya said that he is to put that trap in the basement.

Yesterday Tonya was sure that she had seen a rat flailing around in the front yard.  She was sure that the rat had got caught in one of the rat traps that the Big Guy put in the front yard.  Turns out, the rat traps were not set off.  So what ever the rat was doing, wasn't cause of the traps.

Perhaps it got caught in the grass by a crow or some other animal and it was hurt and trying to find cover.  Either way, it wasn't cause of the Big Guy's efforts to clear his property of the rats.

Tonya is afraid that the rats may try to get inside the house.  Then you got some real problems to deal with.

As it turns out, Tonya and the Big Guy are not the only ones that are trying to deal with rats this year.  They seem to be all over North Sydney this year.  But there is a lot of places that got torn down.  Like the Forum and the Parrish Center.  So with all those places being re-purposed, the ground is being disturbed.  So the rats are trying to find new places to live.

24/Apr/18 the sun is up

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

As a rule, the Big Guy is up no later than 5:00 each morning.  This can vary a bit.  But normally never later than that.  This morning when he put me outside for my morning business, I seen that the sun is up.  It's not over the horizon just yet.

But the birds are starting to wake up.

The air is crisp.

There is hardly a cloud in the sky.

What a lovely day to be alive.

Since I am wearing a fur jacket.  I think I will just lay here, outside and take it all in.

Wait...

The Big Guy is moving around inside the house.

I better go see what he is up to.

He may be making something that I should be eating.  Either that, or he may find that he has the urge to scratch me, just behind my ear.

I got to sit outside with Tonya on the front deck.  The Big Guy works a lot later in the day now.  That means that Tonya and I have some alone time for a few hours.  She gets to yell at me a few times.  It's "Don't bite me".  "Don't jump on me".  "Stop nipping me".  Stuff like that.  I'm kinda bored, so I want to play.  She doesn't like it when I play.  She just wants me to "be there".

Time for the usual stuff.

17/Feb/18 my bone and me by the fireplace

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Tonya and the Big Guy have used this fireplace a few times.  But the last time, the chimney was cold and the smoke didn't rise all the way out of the chimney.  So they had a lot of smoke INSIDE the house.  It took a few days for the smokey smell to go away.

Although there is a little bit of snow that fell last night, there really isn't any snow in the forecast.  This upcoming week, it's all rain that's in the forecast.  Good walking weather.

I wonder if I would ask really nicely, would the Big Guy go against the Vet's orders and that he could take me for a small walk around the block.  Oh that would be so nice.  He's been known to break the rules a few times.  Then again, this is for my paw to heal better, so I bet he would say NO.

It's BORING not going for walks.

Each time I think it's walk time, I RUN to the back door and sit, ready for them to put my leash on.

What to do, what to do...  Tuesday morning can't come fast enough.

Last night, I was a bit anxious and I was being rambunctious.  So the Big Guy put some treats in one of my hollowed out bones and then capped each end with peanut butter.  YUMMY!  It kept me entertained for about an hour.  I could lick the treat, but I couldn't get it out of the center of the bone.  When I dropped the bone on the floor, the treat would fall out.  That and some peanut butter that was holding the treat in place.

Tonya has to go to work today.  She says that she doesn't like to go to work.  But if she doesn't like to go to work, then why does she go?  She says it's so that she can get me some kibble.  Must be a weird place to work if they pay her in dog kibble.

On to the Word of the Day.  Today's word is:

Deasil (adverb)
[dee-zuh l]

My sentence:  The Big Guy's car runs on gasoline, not deasil.

Definition:  Clockwise or in the direction of the sun's course.

Sentence:  The sun goes around the earth in a deasil fashion.

Today's Video of the Day is:  Bernese Mountain Dog protects new baby from other dog

5/Nov/17 that flash is annoying

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Did you ever get the idea that flash photography is just something to piss you off?

Why didn't he take it at this other angle?

Tonya and the Big Guy take me for walks.  Well I can pull REALLY hard.  So much so that I can just about take the Big Guy right off his feet.  They have friends, Tammy and Jim.  They seen them walking me a few times and have told them about this pinch collar.

So they got a lend of it yesterday.

It doesn't fit very well.

Then again it's also made to fit a smaller dog.

The Big Guy was laughing and laughing as he was trying to get this new collar over my head.

Well that didn't work.

So they went to the store and guess what I got...  Yup... a new pinch collar.

The Big Guy said that it made a world of difference with me.  I was no longer trying to pull so hard.

You can see why.  But I have to learn how to behave like a "normal" dog when I am outside.  I can't be dashing and running around.  The Big Guy figures that this is going to make our walks so much better from now on.

But as a treat, they took me to the dog park.  YIPPEE!

I got to run around with my other dog friends!  Tonya held the camera button down and a lot of pictures were taken at once.

If you click on any of the pictures, it goes full screen.  That allows you to see me a lot better!

But I was the BIGGEST dog at the dog park yesterday.  Everyone was so impressed with me.  They all said that I have HUGE paws.  Which is true.  I do have very big paws.

HELLO!

My eyes are up here.

Bye bye fur now.

18/Jul/17 dancing for BBQ'ed pork steaks

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Tonya is such a good dance partner.  I could smell the veggie kebabs.  I could smell the mushrooms and onions cooking inside the tin foil packs with butter.  I could smell the pork loin steaks that were being smoked with the apple wood chips.  I could smell everything on that charcoal BBQ.  I just wanted to dance.

Then the Big Guy said, NO PORK FOR YOU!

I was sad.

Tonya did let a few pieces fall on the kitchen floor that I was able to get to without the Big Guy knowing.

I also ate a flying ant.  Tonya wasn't too happy about that.

Did you like that video?  Let the Big Guy know with a few comments below.

Tonight I should be going to Open Hearth Park with Banting.  She is a Great Dane mixed with St Bernard.  She is tall and weighs MORE than me.  But I am build to pull carts.  She is built to run after rabbits.

Bye bye for now.

30/Jun/17 getting ready for Canada 150

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

It's going to be "picture" day today.  I hope your ready.  If you click on the picture, it will go "full screen" and you will be able to enjoy the pictures better.

What's out on the deck.  I better run out there and see

These flags are in the way for me to look off the deck

Why is Tonya hiding behind 2 glasses of wine?

Can you see me?  I'm in the middle here.

Yes, I am Canadian

Tonya is trying to get me to jump up on the railing.

So I jumped up on her instead

Hardly a breeze.  The flag on the flag pole isn't moving.

Every deck has a flag on it

Also, I bet a lot of you didn't know, the Big Guy isn't as big as he once was.  Yesterday he is finally at 350 pounds.  That is 50 pounds lost.  Can you imagine.  That's a HUGE bag of potatoes that he is no longer carrying around on his body.

If you could take a moment and drop him a line, I know he would love that.  He is really encouraged to keep loosing weight.  He plans to loose the next 50 pounds by Christmas.  At least that is his plan.  He doesn't fall off the wagon and eat chips like someone else we know.

BUT...

I know that my non-furry brother is coming to visit tonight.  Marcel and Kim are dropping by.  I but the Big Guy is going to be putting some of the weight back on again this weekend.

The Big Guy rounded up all the plastic jugs that I've been chewing on and he put them in the trash.  Geesh, what did he do that for?  I was still chewing on them.  I know that Tonya was worried that I would break off a piece and swallow it.

Bye bye for now
