18/Feb/18 dreaming of laying by an open fire

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Tonya seen that I was laying down by the fireplace.  So she decided that I looked so comfortable, it would be time to join me.

So she did.

I personally think that I was "kickin it" when I was the one laying by the fireplace.

There was this TV Series called "Nurse Jackie".  They finished watching all 7 seasons.  Now Tonya is looking for another show that they can watch.

Yesterday the Big Guy cooked a turkey.  Guess who got to enjoy some turkey...  If you guessed ME, you would be correct.  He didn't give me any of the skin.  Neither did he eat the skin himself.  He actually took the skin and threw it outside for the sea gulls to eat.

Those birds are weird too.  The Big Guy can throw something out in the back yard and they appear as if by magic.  I think I will make that today's video of the day.  Or perhaps not.  When I found the video, it isn't uploaded to YouTube.  It was uploaded to Facebook.  I wonder if this link will work?  Click >> HERE << to see if it does.

Right now, the Big Guy is cooking bacon in the oven.  He says that it makes a lot less mess that way.  Which is true, it doesn't splatter the grease everywhere.  I rarely get any bacon.  Only when I bug Tonya.

The Big Guy also does this other weird thing.  It's called seasoning his cast iron skillet.  He will turn the oven on.  Then puts a wee bit of Crisco lard on his skillet.  Then he bakes the skillet for about an hour and a half.  He does this several times.  But he only does this to his cast iron stuff.

After they were done watching TV, they came into the other room where the computers are.

Tonya played on Facebook and the Big Guy played on his XBox, while I kept an eye on both of them.

Yesterday would have been such a nice day to go for  a walk.  BUT NO.  I still got that wrap on my paw.  Tuesday should be the last day that my paw is wrapped.  I guess we will see what the Vet has to say on Tuesday.

Today's Word of the Day is:

Froward (adjective)
[froh-werd, froh-erd]

My sentence:  The Big Guy threw the ball froward, thinking I would fetch it.

Definition:  (of a person) difficult to deal with.

Sentence:  He has no political affiliations, but was froward in his contrarian beliefs.

17/Feb/18 my bone and me by the fireplace

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Tonya and the Big Guy have used this fireplace a few times.  But the last time, the chimney was cold and the smoke didn't rise all the way out of the chimney.  So they had a lot of smoke INSIDE the house.  It took a few days for the smokey smell to go away.

Although there is a little bit of snow that fell last night, there really isn't any snow in the forecast.  This upcoming week, it's all rain that's in the forecast.  Good walking weather.

I wonder if I would ask really nicely, would the Big Guy go against the Vet's orders and that he could take me for a small walk around the block.  Oh that would be so nice.  He's been known to break the rules a few times.  Then again, this is for my paw to heal better, so I bet he would say NO.

It's BORING not going for walks.

Each time I think it's walk time, I RUN to the back door and sit, ready for them to put my leash on.

What to do, what to do...  Tuesday morning can't come fast enough.

Last night, I was a bit anxious and I was being rambunctious.  So the Big Guy put some treats in one of my hollowed out bones and then capped each end with peanut butter.  YUMMY!  It kept me entertained for about an hour.  I could lick the treat, but I couldn't get it out of the center of the bone.  When I dropped the bone on the floor, the treat would fall out.  That and some peanut butter that was holding the treat in place.

Tonya has to go to work today.  She says that she doesn't like to go to work.  But if she doesn't like to go to work, then why does she go?  She says it's so that she can get me some kibble.  Must be a weird place to work if they pay her in dog kibble.

On to the Word of the Day.  Today's word is:

Deasil (adverb)
[dee-zuh l]

My sentence:  The Big Guy's car runs on gasoline, not deasil.

Definition:  Clockwise or in the direction of the sun's course.

Sentence:  The sun goes around the earth in a deasil fashion.

16/Feb/18 my bandage got a pull tab

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

OK, so we went to the Vet yesterday.  Good news and some bad news.

Bad news first.  I am still NOT allowed to go for walks.

Good news, my paw has finally healed and it is only a dry dressing that is on my paw.  The Vet said that she wanted it wrapped so that I wouldn't disturb the new tissues that is in the wound.  Also, if it were exposed and I were to rub or scratch it, I could possibly open up the wound.  So this last dressing is more of a precaution bandage than anything else.

So, with that in mind, Tuesday, when I get the bandages removed, I will be able to go for a walk once again.

I bet we will have to start off slow.  Only a few blocks at first.  It's been almost a month since the Big Guy took me for a walk.  Not that I'm going to have any problems.  It's him that I'm worried about.  He has a bad knee.  Although he's been resting his knee for a month, when we start walking again, it will likely be aggravated by the walking.

But he says that he is willing to walk me, so we will be walking again.  Otherwise, Tonya bought him that reflective jacket for nothing.

Yesterday I ran to the kitchen.  I heard a mouse crawling around.  Tonya put down this trap and we got two of them.  Tonya is embarrassed that we got mice in our house.  But the mice are looking to hide from the cold.  So they find a way to get inside the houses.  It isn't just our house, the people that they work with, have also said that they got mice in their houses too.

The Big Guy can't put any poison down to fix the mice as I may eat it.  I can be dumb like that.

I seen the Big Guy putting out the garbage this morning.  I was looking at him from the window.  I can see the garbage that is across the street.  I wonder what it smells like?  Hopefully they will have another garbage day next week.

So, on to the Word of the Day.  Today's word is:

Mungo (noun)
[muhng-goh]

My sentence:  The song, "In the Summertime" is a great song from 1970, sung by Mungo Jerry.

Definition:  A low-grade wool from felted rags or waste.

Sentence:  The sweater was awful: it looked like it was knit from mungo.

15/Feb/18 well I was sleeping

Good morning Cape Breton.

Maximus Handsomius here from my forever home.

Today is another day where I go to the Vet.  Is this going to be my last visit?  I don't know.  But if it is, it means that I will be able to go for walks tonight.

The weather is going to be nice for walking.  Only a bit of rain.  No snow or ice to worry about on the sidewalks.

Now I can remember, last year, when the Big Guy started walking me.  He could only go around the block and even then.  He wasn't doing so well.  He would get 1/2 way around the block and his back was so sore.  His knee was also bothering him.  But by the summer months, he was walking several kilometers.

Right now, I am being walked 0 kilometers.  Full stop.  We're going to have to build up to only walking 1 or 2 blocks at first and then see how far we can go by the Summer time again.

Oh I hope I can go for a walk as tomorrow is garbage day.  That would be so nice.  To be able to go smell all that garbage that is being put out to the curb.

Sniff sniff here and a sniff sniff there.

Last night, Tonya got a bottle of wine and shared it with the Big Guy.  None for me.  Grapes are not good for me at all.  They also had meatballs and a ceasar salad.  I didn't get any meat balls, but I did get some sauce and a wee bit of ceasar salad stuff put in my food dish.  I made sure to burp in Tonya's face to show her that I appreciated her putting that in my bowl.

OK, so on to the Word of the Day.  Today's word is:

Valetudinarian (noun)
[val-i-tood-n-air-ee-uh n, -tyood-]

My sentence:  My Vet was the top of her class, so she was the valetudinarian.

Definition:  Someone who is excessively concerned about his or her poor health or ailments.

Sentence:  He wasn't a hypochondriac, rather more of a valetudinarian.
